Scenarios
Utilities
- Meter Reading & Installations
The
Challenge
•
The organisation is involved in replacing old meters and taking
the reading on the old and new meters. Each meter is an asset and
has a value to the organisation, in the past meters have been installed
and unfortunately paper work got lost or meter numbers were read
or recorded incorrectly. This lead to loss of assets and poor data
quality. A system was required to provide visibility of jobs completed
and a robust way of recording the meter number installed. The data
had to be uploaded in real-time to the back end system.
The
Solution
• The installation team were provided with digital pens that
have the ability to scan barcodes and paper forms which were similar
to the current forms in use. The installation team could accurately
record the asset details by scanning the asset barcode with the
digital pen. They would then complete the form as usual which is
sent real time to the backend data base. This system improves the
asset register data quality reducing lost asset and improving customer
service. They also benefit form having staff visibility enabling
more efficient planning of work.
Utilities - Road Closure Notice
• The organisation is involved in a pipe replacement programme.
As part of the requirement by the council, they must inform all
residents of any road closures. The notices are served and residents
must make sure that their vehicles are not on the road for the day
of work. If any vehicles are left on the road the council will remove
them. The system must be able to record pictures of all road closure
notices, the make, model and colour of every vehicle on the day
the notices were served, also each picture must have a time and
date stamp. Unless this information is to hand on the day of the
planned work, the council will not be able to remove any vehicles
that are present.
The Solution
•
Gangs are issued with Digital pens and paper forms to capture the
road closure data; they also record the details of all vehicles
on the road. In addition to the paper forms the gangs use their
mobile phones to capture the required pictures. The pictures and
forms are uploaded to the web portal. Then in the event a vehicle
is on the road delaying the planned work, the portal can be accessed
via the web to check if they had served a notice on the vehicle,
the user can type in the car registration or road name and retrieve
they required information. If they vehicle details are on the portal
the team can have the car removed legally.
