The
Challenge.
Yokogawa Australia faced daily business inefficiencies in the
field service and support for its hardware, engineering, project
management and project implementation services. Service engineers
were required to fill in service, calibration and planned maintenance
reports relating to the jobs that they were doing, which then
had to be returned to the office. Having investigated PDA and
Laptop technology – deemed to be too expensive and cumbersome
for its field engineers - Yokogawa looked for alternate solutions.
The aim was to maximise the effectiveness of its service engineers,
and to do this Yokogawa needed to drastically reduce or eliminate
the time engineers took returning to the office for administrative
procedures, such as filling in data on service reports. As well
as business gains, Yokogawa also sought to gain a competitive
advantage in their service delivery.

The
Solution.
Yokogawa chose
Digital Pen and Paper Technology with Anoto Functionality to deploy
to its service engineers in the field for its 100 per cent data
accuracy, real-time delivery and increased data availability.
The solution had the ability to eliminate completely the timely
delays caused by the administration requirements of data entry.
Standard forms, encoded with Anoto functionality – rows
of nearly invisible dots on a standard sheet of paper –
enable engineers to use the DP&P solution from Destiny to
complete the reports. By simply ticking the “Send Email”
box at the bottom of the page transmits the information back to
the office to be directly downloaded into the company’s
database. This was all achieved without having to change existing
reporting methods as the DP&P technology seamlessly integrates
into established business practices.
The
Results.
The
Digital Pen and Paper technology from Destiny has generated substantial
business gains for Yokogawa, because it has streamlined field-to-office
communications, delivering completed forms in just 30 seconds,
and increased productivity. The solution has also created financial
payback for Yokogawa within three months of installation.
